5 Things to Look for in a Realtor

One of the most important parts of the home buying process is finding a real estate agent you trust and feel comfortable with. After all, they’re someone that is going to be helping you make one of the biggest financial decisions of your life. As real estate agents, we recognize how stressful it can be to choose someone to play such a huge role, so we’ve put together a list of the five traits you should make sure your agent has before you agree to working with them! Of course, we hope that you choose us to work with, but either way, we hope that these tips help make you more comfortable as you begin the home buying process!

    1. Honesty.
Buying a house is a huge decision, so when you’re selecting someone to help you, make sure that you choose someone who will always be direct and clear with you about what’s going on in the process. Factors such as what you can really afford and what the buying process looks like are ones that you want to make sure you’re ready for, and your agent should be someone helping you figure those out! After all, they as they expert should be willing to tell you not only good news, but bad news as well so that you don’t end up having unrealistic expectations for how the search is going. It’s so important to have someone you know you can rely on to always tell you the truth so that you can always feel confident in the decisions you make as you buy a house.

    1. Fast communication.
The best houses on the market sell incredibly quickly, so one of the best traits a real estate agent can have is constantly being a quick communicator. You need someone who is going to get back to you within a few minutes if you want to look at a house and who is always available for a quick phone call if you decide to put an offer on a property. After all, in this game, if you wait too long, you might find your dream house slipping through your fingers. A great realtor will do everything they can not to make that happen.

    1. They go the extra mile.
Being a real estate agent means that you’re constantly juggling clients, appointments, and what feels like a million other things as well, but a great real estate agent will still manage to go the extra mile for their clients. In fact, the best real estate agents are willing to go out of their way to make the process more convenient for their clients, including doing things like previewing houses, sending their clients properties that they think might fit them, and checking in on how the process is going when they haven’t heard from their clients in a while. If you don’t have someone who is willing to do those things, you might need to find someone better!

    1. Reliability.
This trait overlaps a lot with honest and team communication, but it is just so important to have an agent that you can count on that we wanted to include it anyway. Your agent should be someone who is always consistently there for you throughout the process and willing to help you out. If you find that your agent keeps canceling their appointments with you or apologizing for forgetting things, you should find someone else! You deserve the best, and that’s not it!

  1. You like them and trust them. Most people end up spending a good bit of time with their agents throughout the buying process, so it’s important to make sure that you actually enjoy seeing them and visiting homes with them. Plus, if you trust their opinions about houses, they may even be able to help you make some important decisions so you don’t feel so overwhelmed. Having those kinds of conversations are just so much easier if you find yourself being friends with your agent.
