It's Time To Pick Apples In North Georgia

You might think that August is too early to pick apples in North Georgia, but you would be wrong. If your family loves to visit the orchards in Ellijay and Blue Ridge to pick apples, we got all the information that you need to know.
Believe it or not, Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge kicks off their apple picking season on August 1. They offer a tractor ride and a bag to a select part of the orchards for only $10 per person, then bring you back to their farm market. Beginning August 24, BJ Reece Orchards and Red Apple Barn both located in Ellijay, Georgia will begin their U-Pick season.
Both orchards have their farm markets open 7 days a week as apple and peach season has already begun. Starting August 24 these orchards will have apple picking and other various farm activities available for your family to enjoy.
Starting August 31, Hillcrest Orchards in Ellijay will open for their U-Pick season, offering similar farm activities for the family.
Tips To Know Before You Go:
- Visit the website for hours, pricing and other important information.
- Remember these are working farms, so strollers and wheelchairs make be difficult to push through the orchards.
- Use the bathroom before you enter the gates.
- Wear comfortable shoes.
- If it's a hot day, bring water with you.
- Want to skip the crowds on the weekend, may of the orchards offer U-Pick at a lower price during the week.
- Weekends in October are peak season, if you don't like crowds and traffic, plan your visit another time.
- Apple picking season is usually finished by the end of October, but you can still visit the farm markets and shop local.
