Time To Go To The County Fair
Have you ever been to a county fair? In the 1800s agricultural fairs gave rural families an opportunity to celebrate their harvests and to see first hand the latest in agricultural techniques and equipment and to showcase livestock breeds. Over the course of the 19th century, fairs began to incorporate a wide range of educational, recreational, competitive, and social activities. Today, fairgoers continue to celebrate agricultural achievements and enjoy exhibitions, food, carnival rides, entertainment, competitions, and well-known concert performers.
This month, we have two county fairs happening in North Georgia:
Gilmer County Fair August 14 - 18, 2024 at the Lions Club Fairgrounds in Ellijay (where the Georgia Apple Festival is located)
Hours:
Aug 14/15 5-10pm
Aug 16/17 5-11pm
Aug 18 2-8pm
Admission: General Gate Price is Adults $5.00, Students $3.00, Children 6 and under are free
Prices for Rides: $25 Armbands - Individual Tickets Available
The Ellijay Lions Club encourages you to bring an old pair of glasses, cell phone, or hearing aid and get a $1 off a single gate admission.
What to expect: The Gilmer County Fair has ride set up by Peachtree Rides. They will have live music, food and craft vendors. They will have exhibitions in more than 100 categories for both youth and adults, including art, quilting, baking, agriculture, flowers, crafts and more.

73rd Annual Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee August 16 - 24, 2024

What to expect: The Annual Georgia Mountain Fair offers live concerts, food, carnival, beauty pageant, flower show, parade, photography show, craft and food vendors. The will also have ground entertainment with disc-connected k-9s, professional trained performing dogs. Just a heads up they do have a clear bag policy.
