It's officially summer, y'all. The backpacks are in the closet, the alarms are off, and you've got a house full of kids who are already bored by 9am.

FREE Things To Do (Yes, Truly Free)
The Mill on Etowah — Canton
The Mill is basically summer headquarters for Canton families, and this year is no different.
- Minis at the Mill — Free weekly playtime for the little ones (walking tots–age 4) held every Wednesday morning at The Green outside The Mill on Etowah, 225 Reformation Pkwy, Canton. Interactive, outside, and zero dollars.
- Summer Movie Series — Bring your blanket and your snacks. The Mill is hosting a full lineup of FREE outdoor movies all summer long. On the schedule: Zootopia (June 2) The Sandlot (June 30), Mary Poppins (July 7), Paw Patrol (July 21) — and don't miss Hamilton for First Friday Movie Night on July 3. Start time is around dusk, so plan for 8–8:30pm.
- Free Outdoor Yoga — Every Wednesday, March through November. The kids can run on The Green while you actually breathe for 45 minutes.
- Friday Night Live Concert Series — FREE live music on select Friday nights. Check The Mill's events page for the full lineup HERE.
Etowah River Park — Canton
One of the most underrated gems in Cherokee County. Wide paved paths along the Etowah River, huge open fields, a great playground, and scenic walking and biking trails — all free. It's the kind of place you bring a football and a cooler and call it a Saturday.
Canton Farmers Market
Every Saturday morning, Brown Park in downtown Canton comes alive with fresh produce, handmade goods, live music, and all the local vendors you love. Let the kids pick out their own fruit, snag a treat, and soak up the downtown energy. Click HERE for more info!
CCSD Free Summer Meals for Kids
Here's a big one — Cherokee County School District is serving free breakfast and lunch to all kids under 18, Monday through Friday, June 1 through July 24 (no service June 29–July 6). No forms, no income requirement — just show up at select community sites. Check HERE for locations near you.
Budget-Friendly Fun (Under $20 a Person)
Blankets Creek Mountain Bike Trails — Canton
Middle schoolers who are ready for something that actually challenges them? Blankets Creek is one of the most popular mountain bike trail systems in the entire United States — right here in Canton. Over 15 miles of trails ranging from beginner-friendly to expert downhill, all winding through hardwood forest on the edge of Lake Allatoona. Parking is free. Bring or rent a bike and let them rip.
Lake Allatoona
Just minutes from Canton, Lake Allatoona is your answer to every hot summer afternoon. Swimming, fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking, and just sitting on the shore — it's one of those places that never gets old. Many access points are free or very low cost through Army Corps of Engineers parks.
Cherokee County Aquatic Center — Holly Springs
One of the best aquatic centers in all of North Georgia. Indoor and outdoor pools, splash zones, water slides, and year-round swim lessons. Day passes are extremely reasonable, and this is where the summer memories are made. Plan a whole afternoon. Click HERE for more details!
Splurge-Worthy Summer Experiences
These ones cost a little more — but they're the ones the kids are still talking about in September.
Red Top Mountain State Park — Cartersville (Near Canton)
Camping, hiking, swimming, and kayak rentals right on Lake Allatoona. This is the splurge that feels like a full reset. Book a cabin or bring a tent. The kids will be off their phones and in the water within 10 minutes of arriving. Worth every penny.
Cherokee Recreation & Parks — Adventure Express Camp
Cherokee Rec runs a legit Outdoor Adventure Camp specifically for teens (ages 13–16). Five different adventurous field trips in one week — this is for the kid who needs something that actually challenges them this summer. Registration goes fast- Click HERE to register!
Six Flags Over Georgia — Season Pass
If you've got kids who want to do something BIG this summer, a Six Flags Season Pass is honestly one of the best values out there. One purchase and you're covered for the whole summer — unlimited visits, the water park, and all the rides they can handle. It's about an hour from Canton, which makes it the perfect "let's make a day of it" trip. Go once and the pass pays for itself. Visit their website for more details!
