The National Weather Service has officially issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of the Southeast, including North Georgia and the North Metro Atlanta area. And yes… we all know what that means: Snowmageddon ’26 !! (kidding… kind of). While we’re not hitting panic mode just yet, the chances of snow and ice are definitely on the table. So, we put together a few simple tips to help you prepare just in case — and a reminder to check in on your loved ones while you’re at it.

1.Fill your bath tub with water!

This will help just in case the power goes out, you can still have water to flush the toilet, cook with if needed, and to have on hand.

2. Prepare an emergency kit for your car

We hope you stay home, but if you are out and about packing an emergency kit for your car is very important. Make sure you include jumper cables, a first aid kit, a phone charger, water and snacks, blankets, a flashlight, a snow brush, a full tank of gas, and cat litter. Make sure you also check your spare tire that it is full of air!

3. Stock up on food, water, and medicine

Make sure you stock up on non- perishable items as well as bottled water and any medicine.

4. Ensure you have enough warm clothes

Make sure you have all your winter coats out, gloves, hats, boots, long johns, socks, and anything else.

5. Have a battery powered radio

Having a battery powered radio is a great thing to have on hand in case power goes out, you can tune into the weather, news, and have a little bit of entertainment in the meantime!

6. Stock up on firewood

If you have a gas fireplace, you can still have a fire in your fireplace to keep your home warm in case of a power outage. Stock up on wood unless you have gas logs.

During winter storms, it’s especially important to check in on the people you love and make sure they’re safe and prepared. Reach out to elderly family members and neighbors, new parents, and anyone who may need extra support during severe weather. Confirm they have a plan in place, necessary supplies, and a way to stay warm and connected. A quick call or text can make a big difference — sometimes just knowing someone is checking on you brings comfort and peace of mind.

The Maria Sims Group is here to assist any and everyone. If you, a family member, or someone you know is in need of anything during this time, we have the ability to get supplies delivered and assist those that need it! You can reach us at 404-805-0673, no questions asked.
